Oh, Hello There.

Oh the irony.
“What?” You ask.
I laugh. “The fact that I’m writing a blog.”
“What’s so funny about that?” You puzzle, confused.
Here’s the answer.

I don’t write blogs. EVER. Nope. No thanks, I’ll pass. I was the girl who laughed at the bloggers she knew and scorned them for disclosing all their personal information to the whole world. And now, me, she-who-laughs-at-bloggers, is starting one.

I didn’t really intend to, but this past year, I decided I want to be a writer. But I haven’t gotten much practice at writing lately, so I’m starting a blog so I can work at my writing skills. Kind of.

I don’t know how many people will read this, maybe one, maybe a hundred. But I hope to not just write empty words, for words have meaning. They carry a weight that pictures and memories themselves don’t have. They have power. And I hope to use the little power I have to shine some kind of light into your world. I might be fooling myself. Maybe no one will read this, but I’m going to try anyway. I hope with my blog to make you laugh, to make you think, and to make you value the precious things in your life, however long you have them. I also hope above all to make everyone who reads this go away with a sliver of joy in their hearts. I hope my words can be a vessel of love and happiness.

So now I’m going to tell you a little about she-who-laughs-at-bloggers, the one behind the electronic screen and keypad.

My name is Alina. I’m just your ordinary (is there really such a thing?) high school student trying to live a good life of purpose and prosperity. I’m homeschooled. No, I don’t wear denim skirts or polo’s. I prefer jeans and a cute blouse, thank you very much. But I do love to read. Mostly fantasy, but also historical fiction, and an occasional biography or political book.

I love music. I love listening to it, playing it, everything about the melodious tones is breathtaking for me. If the government banned music, I would die. But I digress. I also love art, though I’m not very good at it. My favorite color is orange, and my favorite animal is an owl.” Hooo?” An OWL, silly! :P (corny humor….one of my weaknesses.)

I have what my friends call a bubbly personality. I love to laugh and I love to make people laugh. I’m a very extraverted person and thrive off of meeting new people and going to social events. Being with my friends and people who are dear to me is important to me.

I have two brothers. They’re crazy, and funny, and sometimes they do stupid stuff, but I love them to death and I would risk my life for them. My family is very important to me, and I would never give them up for anything in the world. Even music.

I’m a very determined person. So my parents say, and I believe them. It’s not like I’m a spoiled brat who always gets her way, far from it. But when I know something to be true, and someone argues its validity, I will argue with them, because of my convictions and what I know to be right. I used to think it was a flaw, but now I’m glad I’m determined because it makes standing up for those I love easy.

Let’s see….something else about me….Oh, I’m very sarcastic. Sometimes it’s a gift, sometimes a curse, but most of the time it’s just funny to watch people react to it. As a wise man once said, “Sarcasm requires the intelligence of both sides.” And sometimes, people’s intelligence is a little slow on reacting. But 99% of the time my sarcasm is just humorous and I don’t actually mean much of it. It’s my way of teasing people.

One last thing you should know about me (and I’m hoping I’ve captured your attention enough and amused and/or interested you enough for you to not to be offended.) is that I’m a Christian. Again, I don’t want you to leave the site just because you disagree, because I won’t push what I believe on you, but it is a valuable part of who I am and what I do, and it influences the decisions I make and the way I live my life.. I’m no saint, but I do have a Savior. And I am not going to hide that simply to appease the masses. God is more important to me than what people think.

Wow. That was longer than I thought it would be. But hey, now you know a little about yours truly. And as my first post I hope I did a good job. I have absolutely no idea what I’ll write about next, but I hope you’ll check back in a few days or so, because I’m sure I’ll write something, even if it is but a short sentences on the color of the sky or something random like that.

I feel should end with something poetic. So here goes the old Irish blessing.

“May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.”

Many blessings to you and yours, and may you have a very Happy New Year!
